Dr. Gamble is a distinguished professor, scholar, consultant, and creator dedicated to exploring the cultural identity, visibility, and power dynamics that shape Black LGBTQ+ communities. Her groundbreaking research focuses on the representation of Black queer women in television and film, illuminating their narratives and experiences. Inspired by influential scholars like Cathy J. Cohen and Audre Lorde, alongside cultural icons such as Beyoncé and the HBCU classic A Different World, Dr. Gamble harnesses the power of media to ignite meaningful discussions and drive transformative change within communities and organizations.
As a skilled communicator and inclusive strategist, Dr. Gamble translates complex analyses into compelling messages that resonate with diverse audiences. Her recent work delves into Black sapphic identity, featuring a chapter in the upcoming edited book Sacred Sisterhoods: A Celebration of Black Women’s Friendships on Television and in Film and an article in the Fall 2024 issue of Siyobonana: Journal of Africana Studies, which centers on Black LGBTQ identity and social justice. Currently, Dr. Gamble is investigating Black sapphic identity through the lens of a DC-based stud lesbian barber, highlighting and expanding the richness of Black life experiences.
